Backed by global life experience and a multi-million dollar track record in direct-response copy and marketing.
I grew up in a rural, Canadian town, known for its wafting smell of manure, its churches on every corner and its natural beauty. I liked to think of it as a great place to grow up, but how would I have known any better? I was a shy child, who used sports and movies as an escape. I would act out scenes to films in the backyard and immerse myself in books (I was, obviously, super cool).
As a young teenager, I found skateboarding, soccer, and acting as my calling. An escape from a middle and high school environment that on any given day felt like what I imagined inner city US schools to feel like (tough places where if you didn't know how to fight or have a backing of friends you didn't fare well if you weren't normal). And coming from a divorced family in a highly conservative town, I certainly did not fit the mold of 90s "normal".
This was the end of the Cold War, the beginning of the internet, and arguably the last great decade of pop culture (or so Vanilla Ice would have you believe). It was a time of low-rise baggy jeans, of Spears, Timberlake and Eminem dominated airwaves, of Seinfeld and Y2K hysteria, and of great action-flicks.
At 18, I promptly left my small town that offered so much opportunity (none), traveling to Australia and then living in southern China for multiple years. It was a life-defining experience that opened my eyes to the world and the people living in it. I spent time in remote Chinese villages where they had never before seen a foreigner, shared bread with drug-runners struggling for survival for themselves and their families, and partied in lavish hotels with the sons of billionaires. Over the years I continued to travel, visiting 25 other countries across all continents except Antarctica and meeting people of all walks of life. These micro-moments have defined me and helped me better understand humanity, psychology and the ways stories mold us as humans.
I didn't know it at the time, but it was these life experiences that spawned my interest in storytelling and ability to craft them.
After attending university, I drifted towards business and entrepreneurship, feeling the pressure to 'make money' and not understanding that passion and vocation could be one in the same. So for years, I worked in corporate environments, and applied my understanding of psychology and storytelling to the business world – using these skills to build brands through online marketing. I did this for years and was good at it, writing everything from ads and sales pages that produced tens of millions in revenue to online content that drove millions of eyeballs.
But my passion for selling other peoples' wares waned, and I always found myself with a deep, inherent need to write creatively. I would spend evenings and weekends tinkering with scripts and new story concepts and finished my first (decent) script in 2015 called City of Gold - a family adventure film that received praise from competition judges, like "your scope is truly impressive, as is the propulsive nature of the story" and "a truly impressive read".
Over the years, I have continued to write everything from short films and features to short stories. I love to create character-driven genre films that feature strong themes, raw and inventive action, and twisting plots that build to an ultimate pay-off for the audience. As a business savvy writer, my goal is always to entertain viewers while turning profit for investors.
My most recent co-written feature, Runaway, starring Josh Duhamel and James Franco will be released in 2027.
When not writing or traveling, I like to spend time with my young daughter and play in the beautiful outdoors.
